A Fresh Coat of Paint

Through the past few months I haven’t slept much. Who knows maybe I’m being prepared for motherhood! You are constantly thinking about what you need to do or what you should have done.  I’m mentally exhausted, but at the same time I get so much joy in seeing our vision come to life. Don says I’m nitpicky and I guess that I am.  I pay way too much attention to every detail. I wish that I didn’t it gets really annoying but your house is a big deal.  I have tried to sit back and relax and let it come together, but that’s very hard for me to do.  As far as building on your marriage, the only testing times have been when the budget was involved 🙂  We have done an awesome job at sticking to it other than a couple of minor expenses.  It’s very easy to go crazy and want to have everything upgraded and finished out, but those extra hundreds can add up and most projects can be done later.  I’m very fortunate to have a husband that is pretty laid-back and has let me take ideas and run with them. (as long as we stay in budget!) I think it would be a lot harder having two people very opinionated on what they want. We each had a few things that were important to us, so we tried to compromise as much as possible!  We are coming up on our 1 year anniversary next month, and the greatest gift we could receive is moving into our new house!

The porches are now dashing with their Gettysburg Gray!  That paint and brick were just made for each other.  All that is left on the outside is a little touch up paint, shutters and the garage! Oh… and bring in a lot of dirt & hopefully some grass 🙂

1st Coat of interior paint is up!

We lightened up the Adley Gray to 75% and I love it! It is the perfect mix of beige and gray! Since our floors with be the dark wood finish throughout, I wanted the walls to be light and airy.  We did decide to use the LVT “wood” floors everywhere including the bathrooms!  All of our trim will match our white cabinets so I think it’s going to look great!

This is the Olympus White in the Study & Laundry Room!  It has a hint of blue and it’s neat to see how it changes throughout the day. It’s so soft and soothing!

I ordered all of the bathroom mirrors!  I found the best mirrors in such a variety of sizes and styles at Kirkland’s! I would have never thought to look there. Luckily my best friend, Stephanie just built a house a few months ago and gave me the tip!  I bought a cute pine wood finished mirror for fun to change up one of the guest baths!  They should be in next week!

For trim around the doors and baseboards we are going super clean and classic.  Speaking of doors they should be here any day!

Of course I picked out the most expensive granite you can find, so we are on the hunt for something different.  We are looking at the Giallo Ornamental as close to white as possible.  The search continues….

The Stacked Stone for the fireplace was delivered this week and the masons should start this weekend!

Next week we should see some big changes!  Until then!

The columns are looking great!  It is amazing how the little things really complete the house!   image

Love the back porch! I’m ready to go ahead and put some furniture out there so we can enjoy this Spring weather!

The door stain took a full team to nail down.  My best friend Lindsey had the Sherwin-Williams rep drive by our inspiration house in Daphne to see what stain they used on their front door.  He even knocked on the door to ask the owner and the sweet wife said she would have her husband call him with the details! After four of us trying to match the stain, he called to let us know it was Special Walnut! The great thing about living in the South is most people are always so hospitable and eager to help!  Problem solved and I can sleep better at night knowing the door will be a perfect match!

Shingles are going up this week.  Driftwood has a great mix of green, brown, and gray.   image imageimage image image

We are currently trying to decide our Stacked Stone for the fireplace.  We have narrowed it down to these two stones.

I have to give a special thanks to Sorina with A & W Lighting in Mobile.  She has been so patient and a huge help with picking out our fixtures.  I can’t wait to see them all come together!

My husband was determined to move the red dirt around the house before they started on the brick. Any excuse for him to get on a tractor! It really is important to keep any red dirt away and keep pine straw around to protect the brick from being stained.

Brick & Shingles are starting today! I am beyond excited to see!

The back porch is looking great! We plan on spending a lot of time back here! This is probably Don’s favorite part of the whole house.  He can’t wait to mount a TV and make this a place to fry some fish and grill on the egg! I can’t wait to entertain and have good friends and company over!

The Dormer is finally up!  This has been the missing piece to the puzzle!  I wasn’t too sure at the first stage, but it totally completes the house! I just love my little window up there!

Zac asked me if I wanted to see a sample of our exterior paint colors before they got started.  Even though we’ve seen these on our inspiration house, I thought it wouldn’t hurt to see them again! It didn’t take long to assure me we made the right choice.  The Gettysburg Gray is a perfect blend of Gray with a hint of green undertone.  The creamy white trim color looks so clean and crisp.  It will tie in nicely with our Savannah Ivory mortar on the brick.

It didn’t take long the start priming and painting! Now everything is really coming to life.  I love the board and batten and we can’t wait to see the rustic brick finish off the exterior!

Our electrician has been a busy bee! He and his son have managed to wire the entire house in just a few days!

We also got our duct work up for the AC this week!

Brick & Mortar was delivered! They will start laying next week after the AC guys finish up!

Super excited about my soaking tub!  My best friend just recently built a house with the same tub and she loves hers! I can’t wait to relax after all of this!

I went home to my hometown of Laurel, Mississippi a couple of weeks ago for a friend’s baby shower.  It was a quick trip, but I managed to get in a little time with my Mama!  We have the best time together and could literally sit and talk for hours. We even pulled out all of my wedding gifts and things she has put away over the years for our house. While we were going through all of the fun stuff and getting ideas of what to put where, she said I know what you need to do before they finish the house.  She told me when they built their house, they put scriptures in the studs before they came in with Sheetrock. We both had tears in our eyes and were so touched by the idea of God’s word in the walls of our home. There are so many wonderful scriptures that I could fill the entire house with God’s encouraging words.  These are a few that I added.

My latest project has been interior paint colors.  We will keep everything neutral throughout the house and a blue/gray in the laundry room for something fun! Here are the Sherwin-Williams colors that I’m loving!
